About Apple Challenge 2011

Over Thanksgiving weekend in 2007 there was some discussion of the year gone by and the upcoming new year ... pretty much the usual complaining that we like to do.  I mentioned how a friend of a friend, instead of doing a resolution for the new year decided to challenge himself with shotgunning a certain number of beers (I forgot the actual number) over the course of '07 and this same guy's brother challenged himself with eating 100 grilled cheese sandwiches between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Awesome!

Since we decided that resolutions suck/are never successful and this food idea seemed rather intriguing, we decided to come up with a similar challenge for 2008. Challenge ourselves! Challenge each other! Challenge science!

The subject? Bacon. 365 pieces of bacon in 365 days (actually 2008 was a leap year, so it was actually 365 pieces of bacon in 366 days). One piece a day for the entire year. You could do it however you wanted.  One piece a day (with one day off) or 5 pieces at a time, 10 pieces at a time, a pound at a time, 365 in one day, whatever.

2009 was Challenge-free, but in 2010 we came back with something we called the Mile Challenge. Originally planned to be running one mile a day for a year, it soon expanded to rowing, biking, swimming, walking, etc. Despite those provisions, the success rate was much lower than with the bacon.

And here we are in 2011.  Apples are the subject.  The Apple Challenge!!  Same deal as 2008's Bacon Challenge. One apple a day for the entire year.

This blog serves as a platform for documenting our apple-filled year. The progression towards the goal, the highs, the lows, the recipes, the debates, the health benefits, apple news, etc. Apple Challenge 2011!  Here we go ...
